Alandur

Alandur (Tamil: ஆலந்தூர் Alantur [a ː lʌn̪d̪u ː r] ) is a district of Chennai (Madras ), the capital of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Alandur is one of 15 zones ( zones ) of Chennai and includes twelve districts ( wards ).

Alandur is about twelve miles from the city center in the south west of Chennai. Alandur is an important transportation hub: At the motorway junction Kathi Para Junction to Chennai's main road, Anna Salai (Mount Road), the inner ring road Jawaharlal Nehru Road, the main road to Poonamallee (Mount - Poonamallee High Road ) and the National Highway 45 ( Grand Southern Trunk Road ) intersect which connects Chennai with the rest of Tamil Nadu. By 2011, Alandur was an independent city (municipality ) with an area of ​​19.5 square kilometers and a population of 164 162 ( 2011 census ). The city was the capital of the Alandur taluks in the district Kanchipuram. The place was, however, long since grown together with Chennai and become a part of the agglomeration of Chennai.
