Peter Cormack

Peter Barr Cormack ( born July 17, 1946 in Edinburgh ) is a former Scottish footballer, who among other things, in the 1970s, played at Liverpool.

Playing career

Hibernian Edinburgh (1963-1970)

Peter Cormack began his career in 1963 at the Scottish first division club Hibernian FC. Between 1963 and 1970 he played 182 league games for his hometown club, scoring 75 goals. A title he could not reach in those years with his team. In 1969 he reached the final of the Hibernian Scottish League Cup, failed there but clearly with 2:6 to Celtic Glasgow.

Nottingham Forest (1970-1972)

In March 1970 he joined for £ 80,000 to the English first division club Nottingham Forest in the Football League First Division 1969/70. The coached by Matt Gillies team finished the season only in the lower third of the table and lost also with Henry Newton, Bob McKinlay and Terry Hennessey important players. After finishing 16th in the 1970/71 season Forest rose after 15 years of excellence from a table next to last in the First Division 1971/72.

Liverpool FC (1972-1976)

Cormack joined the program in the Second Division not to, but changed hands for £ 110,000 for Liverpool. In his first season at Liverpool coached by Bill Shankly team won the championship in the Football League First Division 1972/73. Peter Cormack scored 8 goals in 30 league games and also took with his teammates Kevin Keegan, Larry Lloyd and Emlyn Hughes the title in the UEFA Cup 1972/73. In the final, was defeated after two games Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-0 and 0-2. In the 1973/74 season, another title in the FA Cup in 1973/74 followed by a 3-0 final victory over Newcastle United. His last season for Liverpool was once again very successful, Peter Cormack (17 games / 1 goal) secured his second title in the First Division 1975/76 and the second title in the UEFA Cup 1975/76. In the final two games against FC Bruges (3:2 and 1:1 ) Cormack, however did not play because he had a hard time injured in October 1975 and turned out for the rest of the season. He consequently lost his place in midfield and moved in November 1976 for £ 50,000 at Bristol City

Bristol City (1976-1980)

The club from Bristol had risen in the previous year for the first time in over 60 years in the first division and secured in the Football League First Division 1976/77 as nearly 18 in the league. In 1978 he won City the title in Anglo - Scottish Cup with a 2-1 and a 1-1 draw against FC St. Mirren. In the season 1979/80 Cormack rose for the second time into his career from the First Division and returned in the sequel to his hometown club Hibernian. His career as a player, he eventually finished in the Partick Thistle, where he subsequently became coach. As a coach, he coached teams in Cyprus and Botswana, where he also coached the national team. After holding various positions as Coach for English and Scottish teams, he finished his career as a coach at FC Greenock Morton in March 2002

Scottish National Team (1966-1971)

Between 1966 and 1971 Peter Cormack played nine caps for Scotland. On June 25, 1966 he played in, coached by John Prentice national his first international match in a 1-1 draw against Brazil. His ninth and last international match took place at a 1-2 defeat against the Netherlands on 1 December 1971. For the Soccer World Cup in Germany in 1974 he was appointed to the Executive of the Scottish national team in 1974, but came to no use.
