Piana Crixia

Piana Crixia ( in Ligurian: A Ciana ) is a municipality with 843 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) in the Italian region of Liguria. Politically it belongs to the province of Savona.

Geography

The municipality is located in Val Bormida of the northern Apennines. Close to Piana Crixia the Bach Bormida di Spigno runs. Of particular interest is a 15 -meter-high rock formation on the territory of the municipality. The rock has the shape of a mushroom and was due to this peculiarity of the starting point of a number of legends. The result is the Fungo di Piana Crixia probably by acting as a rain protection rock mass, which now forms the hat of the fungus and protects the under -standing sedimentary rock layer from erosion. The latter now forms the style of the fungus.

Piana Crixia belongs to the Comunità Montana Alta Val Bormida and forms with its common land the Nature Park Piana Crixia. From the provincial capital of the village is approximately 38 kilometers away.

According to the Italian classifications for seismic activity, the community of zone 4 was assigned. This means that Piana Crixia located in a seismically inert zone.

Climate

The municipality is classified under climate category D, as the number of degree days has a value of 1996. This means that in Italy legally regulated heating season is between November 1 and April 15 for 12 hours per day.

Community partnerships

Piana Crixia maintains since 2001 a partnership with the French town of Saint - Jodard.
