Pietro Tenerani
Pietro Tenerani ( born November 11, 1789 in Torano at Carrara, † December 14, 1869 in Rome ) was an Italian sculptor.
Tenerani was in Rome pupil of sculptor Antonio Canova and Bertel Thorvaldsen. As a master student of the latter Tenerani was involved in the creation of the main characters of the tomb of Prince Eugene and created the genii of Life & Death on the Leuchtenberg - tomb in Munich Michael Church ( court settlement with Thorvaldsen 1829).
1823 modeled Tenerani for the city of Pisa a "Christ on the Cross ," which then had finished in silver and gave to the Church of San Stefano.
Already with his first independent works, such as " Cupid" and " psyche ", Tenerani could emerge from the shadow of his teachers and also obtain initial orders. The Accademia di San Luca was Tenerani a teaching position and appointed him professor. As such he had many disciples, among others, Aurelio Tiratelli.
His position as a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts had Tenerani held until his death. In 1860 he was appointed Director-General of all the Roman museums and galleries; this title was rather less thought an office as an honor.
The artistic work Teneranis covered by the cameo as a graph on individual statues up to the monumental statue group for well a wide range. His characters were praised by contemporaries already " worked ... excellent and Academie for a decorative " as (G. Romani ).
