Procida

Procida ( in ancient Prochyta ) is an island in the Gulf of Naples. It is also the name of the capital and only town with 10,328 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012).

Geography

Procida lies between Cape Miseno and the island of Ischia. It is less than 4 km ². The coastline is about 16 km long. The highest point is Terra Murata ( 91 m).

Geologically the island is formed by eruptions of four volcanoes. These volcanoes are no longer recognizable.

Climate

In the tourist season ( approximately June to early October ) be the daily maximum temperatures 21 to 26 ° C. In summer there is a month about four days of rain, the sea is from June to October 21 ° C warm or warmer.

Access and traffic

The island is accessible only by boat from Naples or Pozzuoli or Ischia. Car ferries ( " traghetti " ) run by all three places mentioned, the faster but more expensive hydrofoils ( " Aliscafi " ) of Naples and Ischia. Hydrofoils no longer drive after a certain sea conditions.
