Quincy Market

North Market (left) and Quincy Market (right)

Quincy Market is a historic building in downtown Boston in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. It was built 1824-1826 and named after the mayor Josiah Quincy, who organized the building without the use of taxes and without borrowing. Quincy Market is located next to Faneuil Hall near the port on the so-called Freedom Trail.

After Boston in 1822 was declared a town, the capacity of Faneuil Hall no longer met the needs. The expansion was achieved by the construction of the Quincy Markets, which includes some elongated granite buildings designed by Alexander Parris. The main building is 163 m long, covers an area of 2,500 m² and is laterally flanked by two other buildings ( North Market and South Market ). Inside there are mainly a food market, restaurants and bars.
