Radek Martínek

Radek Martinek ( born August 31, 1976 in Havlíčkův Brod, Czechoslovakia) is a Czech ice hockey player who is since January 2013 with the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League contract.

Career

The 1.83 m tall defender first played with his hometown club HC Rebel Havlíčkův Brod and later with the HC Hradec Vajgar in the second-class Czech 1st League, before joining the first division team HC České Budějovice in 1996. NHL Entry Draft 1999, the right-handed shooter was eventually selected as the 228th in the eighth round by the Islanders ( drafted ).

After two more seasons in his home country Martinek 2001, he moved to North America where he stood first on the ice for the New York Islanders in the NHL. Right from the beginning belonged to the tribe of the Czech squad the Islanders, the lockout in the season 2004/ 05 spent the defender again when HC České Budějovice, who played at this time in the first league.

On 6 July 2011, the Czech signed a contract for one year at the Columbus Blue Jackets. After two years and a serious injury, by which he in 2011/12 only seven games completed, he returned in January 2013 to the New York Islanders back and signed a one year contract there.

Internationally

With the Czech national Radek Martinek was in 2000 and 2001 Ice Hockey World Championship in years. In so far 18 World Cup matches, the defender scored a total of two assists.
