Rambin

Rambin is a municipality on the island of Rügen in Mecklenburg- Vorpommern. The Vorpommern - Rügen district to belong community is managed by the Office West Rügen based in the community Samtens.

Geography and transport

Rambin is located about twelve kilometers north-east of Stralsund and about 18 kilometers south-west of Bergen. The B96 and the railway line Stralsund - Sassnitz run by the municipality. In the north the municipality borders on the Kubitzer Bodden and the National Boddenlandscape.

The municipality includes the villages of Kasselvitz Rambin, Giesendorf, Breesen, Gurvitz, Bessin, Grabitz, Götemitz, Drammendorf, Rothenkirchen Sellentin and Neuendorf.

History

Rambin is first mentioned in 1246 as Rabyn. The place name is of Slavic origin. The Stralsund councilor Godeke of Wickede founded in 1334 here a hospital and hospice. Already in the 14th century, several owners shared the place, the Duke of Pomerania, the hospital and hospice St. Jürgen before Rambin and the pastorate.

The place was until 1326 part of the Principality of Rügen and then the Duchy of Pomerania. With the Peace of Westphalia of 1648 Rügen was and thus the area of Rambin part of Swedish Pomerania. In 1815, Rambin came as part of Neuvorpommern to the Prussian province of Pomerania.

Since 1818 Rambin belonged to the circle or district Rügen; in the years 1952 to 1955 it was the county Putbus belonging. The village belonged until 1990 to Rügen county in the district of Rostock and in the same year part of Mecklenburg- Vorpommern. The 1990 re- designated as the Rügen was 2011 in the district of Vorpommern - Rügen.

Designed by the Weimar Michael Zapfe coat of arms was approved on 17 May 1999 by the Ministry of Interior and registered under No. 187 of the coat of arms role of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
