The Route nationale 4, short N 4 or No. 4, is a French national road which runs since 1949 by the exit " Porte de Bercy " the Paris ring road in Paris to the German border in Strasbourg and Kehl, where the German B 28 connects to Ulm. 2006 segments were downgraded, but the majority still bears the name N 4

History

From 1824 to 1949 the national road N 4 began at an intersection with Route nationale 3 in Chalons-en -Champagne (formerly Châlons -sur- Marne). It emerged from the route impériale 5 and was 304 kilometers long. 1949, the section Chalons-en -Champagne to Vitry -le- François of the route was taken over national 44. The N 4 took over in 1949 in Joinville- le -Pont, a short piece of the Route nationale 303 N 304 complete ( Joinville- le -Pont - Esternay ), as well as the Route nationale 34 the section of Esternay to Vitry -le- François. In 1957 she was still extended over the D123 and D123bis of the N186 in Joinville -le- Pont up to the outskirts of Paris (Porte de Bercy ).

Over time, four lane highways were created in parallel as bypass roads to N, then the latter on the N4 was moved to relieve the places on the road from traffic.

1962 N 4 was transferred to the northern bypass around Fontenay- Trésigny. The road through the town was then the number N 36A (now D 421). Between Ancerville and Saulx -en- Barrois was graded with the progressive road improvements and the installation on the new route, the old route to the National Road N 2004, which has been downgraded since 2006 departmental road D 604. 2009, the section between Hudiviller and Bénaménil was downgraded, as even the national road N 333, Autoroute A33 in an easterly extension, as expressway exists parallel to this section. This was the same time umgenummert in N4. Right there and then to just behind Blâmont runs the N 4 as a motorway-like road, which bypasses several places. During the umfahrenen places are listed.

N 4a

The N4A was defined as lateral branch of the N4 at two different locations. The first N4A ran from the intersection of N4/N61 " Porte de France " in Phalsbourg in the center of the city. It existed from 1933 to 1973. N4A The second was formed in 1950 from part of the N303, which in Vincennes and N186 in Joinville -le- Pont ran between the N34 through the Bois de Vincennes. This was graduated in 2006. Both roads are local roads today.
