Rubigen is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland. From the former municipality in 1993 Rubigen the former district municipalities Allmendingen separated from at Bern and Trimstein.

Geography

Rubigen is located on 549 m above sea level. M., 10 km southeast of the capital of the canton of Bern ( straight line ). The village is located on a terrace in the wide Aareniederung between Bern and Thun, the Aare east.

The area of ​​7.0 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Aareniederung between Bern and Thun. The western boundary runs along the channelized and straightened Aare. To the east of the river Aare includes a part of more than 500 m wide floodplain ( Hunzigenau ), which has remains of old Aareläufen ( Giessen). From the flood plain of the communal land extends eastward on a natural terrace and a gently inclined slope with the shade- and the Schwandstrasse forest on the plateau of the upper timber (590 m above sea level. M. ). The eastern boundary lies in a valley with the formerly marshy Trimsteinmoos and the Beitenwilmoos. This valley is drained by the Schwarzenbach in a small valley in the shade- west to the River Aare. The highest elevation of 600 m above sea Rubigen is. M. on the edge of Gschneitwaldes reached above Beitenwil. In the far north of the municipality spell extends into the Raintalwald at Allmendingen. From the municipality surface 1997 19 % came from settlements, 20 % of forest and shrubs, 56% to agriculture and slightly more than 5% was unproductive land.

To Rubigen include extensive residential quarters, the hamlets of small Höchstetten ( 549 m above sea level. M. ) on a terrace overlooking the Aare River, Upper Wood (590 m above sea level. M. ) on a plateau east of the village and Beitenwil ( 585 m above sea level. M. ) north Black Bach as well as some individual farms. Neighboring communities of Rubigen are Allmendingen near Bern, Worb, Münsingen and Belp.

History

One finds from the Neolithic period in the saw Rubigen indicate that the municipality was inhabited very early. First appears 982 the place name Huncinga (now the Hofgruppe Hunziken near the Aare ) in the documents. The first mention of Rubigen was in 1267 under the name Rubingen; 1401 is Rubigen handed. The name goes back to the Old High German personal name Rubo and accordingly is with the people of Rubo.

Since the Middle Ages Rubigen belonged to the rule Münsingen, which was initially under the suzerainty of the Counts of Kyburg, since 1406 under Bernese domination. The high jurisdiction over the area exercised, the district court Konolfingen. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ) Rubigen belonged during the Helvetic Republic to the district Höchstetten and from 1803 to Oberamt Konolfingen, which was given the status of an office district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831.

The municipality Rubigen consisted of the three-quarters of municipalities Rubigen, Allmendingen and Trimstein who formed a political unit by the end of 1992. On 24 September 1989, the division of the municipality Rubigen was decided by a large majority. Effective as of January 1, 1993, therefore, the former district municipalities were charged to independent population communities.

Population

With 2895 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Rubigen belongs to the medium-sized municipalities in the canton of Bern. Of the residents 91.8 % are German, 1.6 % French-speaking and 1.3 % speak Italian ( as of 2000). Especially since 1960, a marked increase in population was recorded.

Policy

The voting shares of the parties at the national elections of 2011 were: SVP 22.3 %, SP 20.6 %, 19.4 % BDP, GPS 9.0 %, FDP 8.2 %, 7.3 % glp, EPP 4.9 %, CVP 2.1 %, EDU 2.1 %.

Economy

Rubigen was until the mid-20th century, a predominantly coined by farming village. Even today, the agriculture, dairy farming and livestock have a certain role in the occupational structure of the population. Many other jobs are in the local retail industry and the services available. Thanks to good transport links emerged in the field of Rubigen various industrial zones. Today in the town of companies in the construction and transportation, construction materials and furniture industry, mechanical engineering, food processing, various trading companies, covering a delivery mechanism and mechanical workshops are represented. North of the village a large gravel pit is exploited. In recent decades, the village has developed thanks to its attractive location into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the agglomeration of Bern.

Traffic

The community is a very good transport developed. It lies on the old main road through the Aare valley from Bern to Thun. The nearest links to the motorway A6 ( Bern- Thun), which was passed through the municipality and opened in 1973, is located about 1 km from the center. On 1 July 1859, the railway line from Bern to Thun was taken with a station in Rubigen in operation. For the dispersion in public transport provide a bus service which operates direct flight from Belp via Rubigen to Konolfingen, and a small bus that goes to Worb.

Attractions

The church in small Höchstetten, the only pre-Romanesque apsidal hall in Switzerland, dating from the 10th century and until the Reformation in major pilgrimage site. The church was restored from 1962 to 1965 and now serves as Reformed Church of Rubigen ( for parish Münsingen belonging ). The castle was built in Beitenwil 1723.

In Rubigen are also the smallest museum and the largest bowling alley in Switzerland.
