Salmo lumi

Salmo lumi is a species of fish in the salmon family (Salmonidae ), which is endemic in the north and west of Lake Ohrid on the Albanian- Macedonian border. The status as a separate species is not fully understood.

Features

Salmo balcanicus reaches a length of 38 centimeters. Outside it's the other species in Lake Ohrid, Ohrid trout ( Salmo letnica ), and Salmo Salmo aphelios balcanicus very similar. Unique differentiators are not known. Head and body are silvery with black spots. Red spots are present mainly in the lateral line organ

Way of life

The species spawns from December to February in the tributaries of the lake, which is separated in time and space from the other species of the lake in the reproduction.
