San Antonio Dragons

The San Antonio Dragons were an American ice hockey franchise in the International Hockey League from San Antonio, Texas. Their home stadium was the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum and occasionally the Alamodome.

History

The franchise of the Peoria Rivermen of the International Hockey League in 1996 to San Antonio, Texas, relocated and renamed San Antonio Dragons. In its first season, the 1996/97 season, the Dragons reached the first place in the Midwest Division of the IHL and thus qualified for the play-offs. There she lost in the second round and dropped out. Furthermore, the players of the San Antonio Dragons wore in the 1996 /97 home games all-white and all-black jerseys to away games. This was the reason that the desired jersey design was not yet available.

The club competed with the then also settled in San Antonio Iguanas of the Central Hockey League. Also, through this competition, the club could not list the expected audience. After another season in the International Hockey League, the Dragons broke up due to financial problems in the summer of 1998.
