San Martín de las Piramides is a municipality in the Mexican state of México. It belongs to the Zona Metropolitana del Valle de México, the metropolitan region around Mexico City. The community had in 2010 24.851 inhabitants, its surface area is 67.5 km ². The epithet refers to the las Piramides situated not far from the main town pyramids of Teotihuacán.

Administrative seat and largest of the twenty places of Municipalities is the eponymous San Martín de las Piramides ( 12,812 inhabitants), more cities with more than 1,500 inhabitants are Ixquitlán San Pablo, Santa María Palapa, Santiago Tepetitlán and Cozotlán Norte.

Geography

San Martín de las Piramides is located in the northeast of the State of Mexico, about 40 km northeast of Mexico City at an altitude of about 2300 m to 3046 m. More than 70 % of the area of the municipios are used for agriculture.

The municipality consists of a main part of the town of San Martín de las Piramides and a small enclave around the town Santiago Tepetitlán about 10 km to the south.

The municipality of San Martín de las Piramides borders the Municipalities Temascalapa, Axapusco, Otumba and Teotihuacán as well as to the municipality of Santiago Tepetitlán Tepetlaoxtoc.
