Sandusky County is a county located in the state of Ohio of the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Fremont.

Geography

The County is located in northern Ohio, is bordered on the northeast by Lake Erie, the southernmost of the five Great Lakes and has an area of ​​1082 square kilometers, of which 22 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Ottawa County, Erie County, Huron County, Seneca County and Wood County.

History

Sandusky County was formed on February 12, 1820 from parts of Huron County. It was named after an Indian term which means as much as cold water.
