Schönau-Berzdorf

Schönau- Berzdorf on the self ( officially Schönau- Berzdorf ad Eigen, Upper Sorbian Sunow - Bartono ) is a municipality in the district Görlitz, Saxony. It is located in the historic landscape characteristics and belongs to the administrative community Bernstadt / Schönau- Berzdorf to.

Geography and transport

The municipality of Schönau- Berzdorf located in the eastern part of the county, about 9 km south-west of Görlitz and 15 km east of Lobau. The B 99 and the Polish border spread east of the municipal area. The municipality is situated on the emerging Berzdorfer lake, which has emerged from the lignite mine Berzdorf.

The municipality consists of the villages Kiesdorf on the self and Schönau - Berzdorf on the self. The latter was created in 1963 from the merger of Schönau on the self and Berzdorf on the self. Between Schönau Berzdorf and was built in 1920, the mining camp Neuberzdorf.

History

The Schönau on the own will, in 1264 and Berzdorf on the Principal was first mentioned as a possession of the monastery of St. Mary Star in 1280.

Around 1835 the first coal is mined underground via wells. In the aftermath of the degradation is extended to an open pit, which is 1927 shut down and flooded. 1946, mining was again open, drained and it was mined coal in it again. Starting in 1962, is a local installation Berzdorfs in progress, which leads on 18 July 1963 on the reunification of Schönau and Berzdorf. The local termination of the original town Berzdorf well as large parts of the resulting 1920 Neuberzdorf by the mining Berzdorf done from 1969.

The district Kiesdorf on the self is ( named after its leader Kezeling ) in 1200 founded. In the year 1264 there will Marienstern first mentioned as a possession of the monastery of St. documented. Since 1994 Kiesdorf is part of the municipality of Schönau- Berzdorf.
