Sigbjørn Johnsen

Sigbjørn Johnsen ( born October 1, 1950 in Lillehammer ) is a Norwegian politician Arbeiderpartiet (Ap).

Biography

Johnsen comes from a working-class family and grew up in Stavsjø on the Fylke Hedmark. In 1964, he joined the youth wing of a Arbeiderpartiet ( work ern ungdomsfylking ( ON ) ). After graduation, he worked 1970-1971 as a bank teller, but full-time functionary of the student association of Ap was then ( work ern opplysningsforbund ( AOF ) ) and was from 1971 to 1974 whose Instructor in Fylke Hedmark. He was also from 1973 to 1976 secretary of Ap in Ringsaker and 1973-1996 Member of the Board of Ap in Fylke Hedmark.

In addition to studying at the Norwegian School of Management BI 1974 to 1976 he was at the same time also treasurer of the Central Committee of the AOF. He was also from 1975 to 1977 Chairman of the Youth League and then ON to 1981 Member of the Central Committee of the UP.

1977 Johnsen was first elected to succeed Odvar Nordli for Members of the Storting, where he represented until 1997, the interests of Ap in Fylke Hedmark. During his deputies activity, he became a member of the Municipal and Environment Committee and 1986 of the Finance Committee, which he chaired between 1986 and 1990. He then belonged, among others, the Foreign Affairs Committee and the Defence Committee.

In November 1990 he was appointed by Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland of Finance and Minister of Customs ( Finans -og tolldepartementet ) in their third government appointed and retained this position until his replacement by Jens Stoltenberg in October 1996. Right at the beginning of his tenure came there 1991 a banking crisis, in which the Den norske Bank, Christiania Bank og Loans Fund and the Fokus Bank were on the verge of bankruptcy. To rescue the banks, however, Johnsen created a National Bank Insurance Fund ( Statens Banksikringsfond ) and a State Bank Investment Fund ( Statens Bankinvesteringsfond ).

In 1992 he was a candidate for the succession of Gro Harlem Brundtland of the function of party leader of the Labour Party, but lost it Thorbjørn Jagland.

In 1997 he was Fylkesmann of Fylke Hedmark, he was so until 2009 president of the province.

On 20 October 2009 he Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg appointed as the successor of Kristin Halvorsen, Minister of Finance.
