Sondheim vor der Rhön ( officially: Sondheim vdRhön ) is a municipality in the Lower Franconian district of Rhön - grave field and a member of the administrative community Ostheim vdRhön.

History
The Frankish settlement Sondheim vdRhön was founded around 525. 789 was the first documentary mention. Until 1335 Sondheim was the most important place in Baringau and seat of the court cents. 1359 was the collection to the city, the municipal law was not perceived. Between 1230 and 1435 the town was under the Bishopric of Würzburg and then came to the office Lichtenberg, which until 1548 the county of Henneberg - Römhild and from 1555 belonged to different Ernestine duchies, most recently from 1741 to Saxe-Weimar- Eisenach. In 1808 the place was in the " enclave Ostheim ".
1840 Sondheim was destroyed by a great fire. Formerly an office of the Grand Duchy of Saxe-Weimar -Eisenach was the exclave Ostheim in 1920 to the newly established state of Thuringia. In 1945, Sondheim through administrative allocation of the U.S. military government of Thuringia to Bavaria. In 1978, Sondheim was a member municipality in the administrative community Ostheim.
Due to the previous rule, the country villages of this former enclave are predominantly Protestant as opposed to Catholic surroundings today.

Policy
Mayor Monika Goetz. She was succeeded by Ulla Schröder (CDU Association " borderland " ) in 2002. In the direct election of the mayor it was confirmed in 2008 with almost 90 % of the vote in office. The activities carried out with a stake of 68.59 % in the same year municipal elections, came to the following conclusion:

The gross expenditure of the municipality amounted to € 2,099,824 in 2011, in contrast, are revenues of € 1,904,931. Of this amount, € 514,532 on tax and only € 29,900 on subsidies. The debts of the municipality in the credit market and the public budgets in 2010 amounted to € 635,000, these are exclusively non-public debt.
