Sonia (singer)

Sonia (actually, Sonia Evans, born February 13, 1971 in Liverpool) is an English pop singer, who in 1993 took part in the Euro Vision Song Contest.

Career

Sonia began her singing career in a Liverpool band. In 1989, she surprised Pete Waterman, a third of the production team Stock Aitken Waterman, in his live radio show. He took them under contract and already their first single, You'll Never Stop Me Loving You was in June 1989 with 350,000 units sold, a number -one hit.

This was followed by the singles Can not Forget You, Listen to Your Heart, Counting Every Minute and End of the World. In duet with the boy band Big Fun yet appeared the charity single You've Got a Friend. In addition, Sonia worked in 1989 at the project Band Aid 2. The mid-1990 released album " Everybody Knows " reached eighth place on the British charts with 500,000 units sold.

In 1991, Sonia separated from the hit factory Stock Aitken Waterman and joined by Pete Waterman Limited ( PWL ) to IQ Records. Sonia now wrote many of their songs have had on their image in full control. From their second album " Sonia ", the singles were released Only Fools ( Never Fall in Love ), Be Young, Be Foolish, Be Happy and You to Me Are Everything. The single Only Fools ( Never Fall in Love ) was her third top ten hit in the UK and also conquered the German charts. Sonia was promoting the song in several successful television shows in Germany.

In 1993 she took also for their homeland with the song Better the Devil You Know the Euro Vision Song Contest second place. In the UK charts, the song reached # 15 Shortly after the eponymous album was released on the Arista label. The album contains the single Boogie Nights entitled Set Me on Fire, which was written by Lisa Stansfield for Sonia. The album did not have the desired success and Arista parted from Sonia.

From her first 11 singles reached 9 in the UK Top 20 and the other two songs the Top 30 after their third album in 1993 but it was quiet around Sonia. The same applied to their former production team Stock Aitken Waterman, the late 80s and early 90s also responsible for the success of Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan recorded.

1994 Cover version Hopelessly Devoted to You was released as a single, as Sonia had taken over the role of Sandy in the musical Grease. The single itself was also home The Anthem Medley, a medley of three other cover versions: I Am What I Am, You Make Me Feel Mighty Real and Do not Leave Me this Way.

In November 1995, a cover version was re- released with the single Wake Up Everybody. Sonia had at that time received another album, which contained more cover versions. The album was never released.

Furthermore, played Sonia in the musical What a Feeling! with and could ever put their vocal qualities more than demonstrated here.

Comeback

2003 was directed again the attention of a wide audience on her, when she participated as a contestant on the reality TV show Reborn in the USA, but was voted out after the fifth week. In the course of this work a greatest hits album was announced, which has not previously been published.

Their single was released in 2010 Fool for Love, which was especially popular in the gay community, which is why on 17 July 2011, a remix EP was released, but as yet has seen moderate success.
