Soppe-le-Haut

Soppe -le -Haut ( German Obersulzbach ) is a commune with 562 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ), in the Alsace Haut -Rhin. It belongs to the district Thann, to Canton Masevaux and community association Vallée de la Doller et Soultzbach.

Geography

The community Soppe -le-Haut is located in Soultzbachtal in the southeastern Vosges, about 20 kilometers west of Mulhouse and 20 km north-east of Belfort. In the southwest Soppe -le-Haut is adjacent to the region of Franche -Comté, which also forms the Rhone-Rhine watershed here.

Neighboring communities of Soppe -le-Haut are Sentheim in the north, Guewenheim in the northeast, Soppe -le- Bas in the southeast, Bretten in the south, and Eteimbes Lachapelle- sous- Rougemont to the southwest and the west Petitefontaine ( point of contact ).

History

The original German name and river of the same mean as much as salty stream. It is believed that a settlement existed at the site of the village already in Gallo-Roman times near a fort, which was situated on the Roman road from Mandeure after Artzenheim. Around 1100 the name of the town first appears in the founding of the Priory of St. Morand in Altkirch and St. Nicholas in Rougemont.

Attractions

The Church of St. Margaret ( Église Saionte -Marguerite ) dates from the 3rd quarter of the 18th century. It was built in 1469 in place of a previous building, maintaining the Turmesaus. Since 1995, the church is classified as a monument historique.
