Sosensky, Kaluga Oblast

Sossenski (Russian Сосенский ) is a city in Kaluga Oblast (Russia) with 12,392 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city lies about 90 km southwest of Kaluga Oblasthauptstadt to the river Sossenka and Pessotschnaja, right tributaries of Schisdra in the river system of the Volga.

Sossenski located in Rajon Kozelsk.

History

The village was founded in 1952 in connection with the construction of coal pits in the Moscow lignite basin, received on March 19, 1954 the status of an urban-type settlement as Leninsky, but on 10 April of the same year in Schepeljowski after the name of the previously existing Schepeljowo station was changed.

1991 awarded city rights under the current name, derived from the Russian sosna for Pine ( see coat of arms ).

Economy and infrastructure

After the coal mining was stopped, the main operations are the work of construction equipment, building materials industry ( STROIDETAL ) and the textile industry.

The city is located ( four kilometers southeast of the city station Schepeljowo ) on the railway line opened in 1941 Sukhinichi - Kozelsk - Tula.
