Geography

The community Sottrum is about 20 meters above sea level and is the nucleus of the velvet municipality Sottrum. The place has an area of ​​two kilometers in north-south and 1.5 km in west-east direction. The place is located about 32 kilometers from the city of Bremen and 13 kilometers from the district town of Rotenburg (Wümme ). The surroundings of the town is characterized by bog, forest and the river valleys of Wümme and Wieste.

History

The oldest known written mention of Sottrum is 1205. Sottrum In a Convention is mentioned there as Suthrem as archdeacon of the cathedral chapter Verden. Formation of Samtgemeinde

On 29 December 1970, the municipality Horstedt declared its accession to Samtgemeinde. With the entry into force of the law on the restructuring of municipalities in Rotenburg ( Wümme) on March 1, 1974 were added to the churches Ahausen and Eversen. The existing Samtgemeinde Sottrum was made at that time under the new law.

Traffic
