Southern Company is a US-based energy company with headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. The company is listed on the stock index S & P 500 and the Dow Jones Utility Average.

The company produces and sells electricity to its customers in the U.S. states of Alabama, Georgia, Florida and Mississippi.

Subsidiaries and Investments

1995 Southern Company acquired the British company British South Western Electricity Board ( SWEB ). For the first time acquired a U.S. utility company, a foreign, private energy companies. SWEB but was sold in 2003 by Southern Company to the French energy company, EDF Energy.
