Style

The EPs Silence Teaches You How to Sing and Silencing the Singing continue the minimalist ambient elements of Perdition City. The pieces are interspersed with echoes of film noir soundtracks, lounge - jazz, trip-hop, Noise and Clicks & Cuts. Only in Silence Teaches You How to Sing a short, but wordless vocal passage is used, otherwise the pieces are instrumental. The atmosphere is usually melancholic and mysterious. William York of Allmusic compares Silence Teaches You How to Sing with works of Coil, Pole and Tarwater.

Reception

" [ Silence Teaches You How to Sing ] creates [ ... ] weird and wonderful sonic landscapes that require intensive study, so that we can really enjoy the perfect beauty of the unusual. "

" Ulver pull the audience in her spell, so it is completely blown away by the power that is inherent in the pieces ... "

" ' Teachings In Silence ' offers perhaps the most daring, but also subtle composition of ULVER work at all. "
