Thiébouhans

Thiébouhans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Thiébouhans is located on 805 m, 5 km north-east of Maîche and about 26 km south of the town of Montbéliard (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the north -east of the vast plateau of Maîche, at the southern foot of the height of the Bois des Côtards.

The area of ​​5.81 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by the weakly in relief plateau Maîche, which is on average 800 m. It is mainly composed of meadow and pasture land. The plateau has no above-ground rivers, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. In the north of the municipality extends to the bottom ridge of the Bois des Côtards ( 883 m). To the southwest, the municipality's area covers over the wooded heights of Bois des Bois du Roi Tranchots and up to the ridge of Mont Miroir, in the 970 meters, the highest elevation of Thiébouhans is achieved.

To Thiébouhans include the hamlet of La Cité (801 m) at the Nordostfuß of Mont Miroir as well as numerous farmsteads. Neighboring communities of Thiébouhans are Montandon in the north, Trévillers in the east, Damprichard, Cernay- l'Église and Maîche in the south and Les Bréseux in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Thiébouhans belonged to the territory of the county of La Roche Saint -Hippolyte. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France.

Population

With 232 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Thiébouhans one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 232 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1970s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Thiébouhans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture ( livestock and dairy farming ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are now a number of companies of small businesses, mainly in wood processing. Many workers are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares on a secondary road that leads from Maîche after Trévillers. Further road links exist with Damprichard and Montandon.
