Tiris Zemmour Region

Tiris Zemmour (Arabic ولاية تيرس زمور, DMG Wilaya Tiris Zammūr ) is the twelfth of thirteen administrative regions of the African country of Mauritania, while the northernmost and one of the largest regions in the country.

Capital is Zouérat. Tiris Zemmour is divided into three departments F'Dérik, Bir Moghrein and Zouérat.

Tiris Zemmour is bordered on the northeast by Algeria, Mali to the east, Western Sahara in the north and west, and the Mauritanian Adrar administrative region in the south.

In 2000, 41,000 people lived here.

The Kediet Ijill between Zouérate and F'dérik is at 915 meters the highest mountain in the country. The local iron ore is brought to the railway Nouadhibou - M'Haoudat to the port to Nouadhibou.
