Torgny Mogren

Torgny Mogren ( born July 26, 1963 in Hällefors ) is a former Swedish cross-country skier.

Life and career

Mogrens biggest success was the two-time winning the world title over 50km freestyle. He won over this distance in 1991 in Val di Fiemme ( Italy) and in 1993 in Falun (Sweden). He was awarded the Svenska Dagbladet Gold Medal - Also in 1993, winning the Radiosportens Jerringpris.

His first World Cup victory came in Bohinj ( Slovenia) in 1986. This was followed up in 1994 fourteen more World Cup victories, with his victories are counted at the World Championships as World Cup races. In the 1986/87 season he won the cross-country World Cup.

In Winter Olympics him the great success was denied in a single race. His best result in 1992 was a fifth place in the 25 km pursuit race in Albertville. In 1988, he won the gold medal in Calgary as the final runner of the Swedish season. Overall Mogren took part in four Olympic Games. In his last Olympic race over 50km in Nagano in 1998 he reached the 34th place.

His last World Cup races contested Mogren on 14 March 1998 in Oslo ( Norway) over 50 km classic; he ran on the 47th.
