Unión Magdalena

The Asociación Deportiva Unión Magdalena is a Colombian football club was established in 1953 in Santa Marta, which currently plays in the Categoría Primera B.

History

Unión Magdalena was founded in 1968 as the first club from the Colombian Caribbean coast soccer champions. For Unión Magdalena, this is so far the biggest success in club history. 1989 Unión Magdalena could advance to the finals in the Cup competition, which was held as an alternative to broken championship that year, but it lost to the capital club Independiente Santa Fe. Since the last relegation 2005 Unión Magdalena plays only second-rate. 2012 and 2013 the club reached the final of the Torneo Apertura, respectively, but it lost in 2012 against América de Cali and 2013 against Uniautónoma FC.

The Colombian football legend Carlos Valderrama began in the years 1981 to 1983 his professional playing career at Unión Magdalena

Stadium

Unión Magdalena completed its home games at the Estadio Eduardo Santos normally. The stadium was inaugurated in 1951 and has a capacity of 23,000 seats. As it is, however, currently under reconstruction, the club plays since 2013 in various stages, including in Riohacha. For the 2014 season a new stadium was built in Cienaga, to play again in Magdalena. The Estadio Municipal de Cienaga has a capacity of approximately 10,000 seats.
