Västerås

Västerås [ vɛstəro ː s] is a town in the Swedish province of Västmanland County and the historic province of Västmanland. It is the capital of the municipality of the same name.

Geography

Västerås is situated on a bay of Lake Mälaren, about 100 km west of Stockholm.

History

Several Reichstag were held in Västerås, most of which are the most important in 1527 and 1544. 1527 ended Gustav I Vasa, the power of the hierarchy and led the evangelical doctrine in Sweden, in 1544 he made the crown hereditary in his family.

Västerås is associated with about 100 km eastern Swedish capital Stockholm via a direct train line and on the E18 motorway. On the eastern outskirts of Västerås airport is named Stockholm - Västerås Airport, from which extend both charter and scheduled flights.

Culture
