Veľká Lehota

VeLka Lehota ( until 1927 slovak " VeLka LEHOTA "; German Großhau or Großhay, Hungarian Nagyülés - to 1888 Nagylehota ) is a municipality in central Slovakia.

It is located northwest of the town of Nová Bana in the mountains Pohronský Inovec between the mountains Vojšín (819 m) ​​, Velky Inovec (901 m) and Haj (616 m) at an altitude of 576 m above sea level. Surrounded is the church of oak and beech forests. It has 1350 inhabitants.

History

The church was founded in the time of Matthew Csák near a Benedictine abbey. The community then was first mentioned in 1345 by Louis I issued Memorandum Nová Bana as " Nova plantaio ". 1424 VeLka Lehota was given away along with Malá Lehota by the then King of Hungary and Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire Sigismund as belonging to the castle Hrušov. This membership is also clear from documents from the years 1467, 1468 and 1504. Later, the village belonged to the dominion of the owner of the castle Topoľčiany.

1780 a chapel was built, which was expanded in 1809 to a church dedicated to St. Martin. At the same time the rectory and the neighboring Catholic elementary school were built. It was not until 1927/1928 a government primary school was built. 1925-1938, there was a migration, the migrated inhabitants often returned later.
