Volgorechensk

Wolgoretschensk (Russian Волгореченск ) is a town in Kostroma Oblast (Russia) with 17,104 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 40 km southeast of Oblasthauptstadt Kostroma on the right bank of the Volga River, at the mouth of its tributary Schatscha.

Wolgoretschensk forms a separate urban district.

The city is at an endpoint Furmanov branching off the route Yaroslavl Ivanovo - 30 km long railway line ( freight only ). Through the city also leads the road Kostroma Ivanovo.

History

Wolgoretschensk was created in 1964 as urban-type settlement in connection with the construction of a thermal power plant and received on 16 June 1994, the city law.

The name refers to the Volga and the Russian word for reka river, means than about Volga River city.

City -forming enterprises is that of OGK -3 belonging Kostroma Thermal Power Plant (Russian Костромская ГРЭС / Kostromskaya GRES ) with an output of 3600 megawatts. There is also a tube factory farms and the construction industry.
