Walternienburg is a district of the city of Zerbst / Anhalt in the district of Anhalt- Bitterfeld, in Saxony -Anhalt ( Germany ). The place is partially eponymous for the Walternienburg - Bernburg culture, a culture of the Neolithic period.

Until December 31, 2009 Walternienburg was an independent municipality with the associated hamlets Ronney and Poleymühle. On an area of 18.77 km ² community lived 519 inhabitants ( 31 December 2008). On 1 January 2010, the annexation was to Zerbst / Anhalt.

Geography

Walternienburg between Zerbst / Anhalt and Barby is located on the Nuthe, which flows near the town on the Elbe. Parts of the municipality is part of the Biosphere Reserve Middle Elbe.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on 2 June 1995 by the regional council of Dessau and registered in the State Archives Magdeburg under the coat of arms registration number 38/1995.

Blazon: " Divided by wave cut gold blue; in front a blue wave pile, behind a three-tiered golden tower with black roofs, golden ball and black weathervane. "

The municipality colors are blue and gold ( yellow).

The tag cleavage by wave cut symbolizes the closeness of the community to the Elbe, the blue wave represents the pile Nuthe represents over which rises a tangible symbol of the community as a site-specifically of the 1000 -year-old tower of the former castle. The color blue symbolizes water (Elbe and Nuthe ), the metal gold grain as an indication of the rural character of Walter Nienburg.

Infrastructure

From Schora on the main road 184 branches off a road link via Güterglück and Walternienburg for yaw cable ferry across the Elbe in Ronney to Barby from. More road connections are available to Zerbst and after Leitzkau. In the neighboring Güterglück consist train connections to Magdeburg and Dessau.

Walternienburg is an elementary school site ( for the places Gehrden, Gödnitz, Güterglück, Hohenlepte, Moritz, Nutha and Lübs and Prödel, both districts of the city Gommern ).
