Western Area Rural District

The Western Area Rural District in Sierra Leone, together with the Western Area Urban District, the Western Area. According to the last census 2004 164.024 inhabitants lived in this district. The state capital Freetown is the district capital, although the Western Area Rural itself is not within the city limits, but in the surrounding area. The most populous city is Waterloo. The district is divided into four chiefdoms ( chiefdoms ).

2004/2005 there were 140 primary and 15 secondary schools. The literacy rate in 2004 was 52% ( 63 % of men and 42 % of women ), higher than the national average. 48.6 % of the children attended school.
