William Henry Brockenbrough

William Henry Brockenbrough ( born February 23, 1812 in Virginia; † January 28, 1850 in Tallahassee, Florida ) was an American politician. Between 1846 and 1847 he represented the state of Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

The exact birthplace of William Brockenbrough is unknown. After studying law and qualifying as a lawyer, he began to work in his new profession in Tallahassee in the Florida territory. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. In 1837 he became a deputy in the territorial House of Representatives; 1840-1844 he was a member of the Senate of the territory, which he was president in 1842. From 1841 to 1843 he was a federal prosecutor for the Florida territory.

After the founding of the State of Florida Brockenbrough ran unsuccessfully in the first midterm elections. He defeated Edward Carrington Cabell of the Whig party. Brockenbrough but put against the outcome of the election opposition one. After this had been upheld, he could take his seat in Congress on 24 January 1846. Until March 3, 1847, he finished there the current legislative period, which was determined by the events of the Mexican -American War.

After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives William Brockenbrough is no longer politically have appeared. He died on January 28, 1850 in Tallahassee.
