Winger is the title of the 1988 released debut album of the American hard rock band Winger.

Background

The group was founded by Sahara Kip Winger and Paul Taylor along with Reb Beach and Rod Morgenstein. Winger and Taylor had been previously as a musician on the Constrictor tour of Alice Cooper on the road and had then decided to jointly launch a separate project. Sahara received a recording contract with Atlantic Records and went with producer Beau Hill from the studio to record the debut album. Only shortly before the album's release, the group renamed itself Winger. That was already framed finished the album cover, only the band's name has been added; the original name of the group is on the cover can still be seen (lower right corner ).

The Vinyl edition of the album contained 10 tracks, the CD Edition additionally the song Higher and Higher. Addition to its own titles, the band had also recorded a cover version of Jimi Hendrix song Purple Haze to the Dweezil Zappa contributed a guitar solo that can be heard on the left audio channel.

Winger reached number 21 on the Billboard 200, the three coupled- singles reached all the Billboard Hot 100, where Headed for a Heartbreak even reached the Top 20. The album was recorded on January 27, 1989 in the U.S. with a gold record; on 13 June, followed by platinum.

Holger Stratmann wrote for Rock Hard, he had " but one Vorabcassette with the titles and the words" Produced by Beau Hill " " even nothing at hand that something could say about Winger, but that was not even necessary.
