Yasothon Province

Yasothon ( Thai: ยโสธร ) is a province ( Changwat ) in the northeast region of Thailand, Isan. The capital of the province of Yasothon Yasothon is also called.

Geography

The Yasothon province lies about 550 kilometers northeast of the capital, Bangkok on the Khorat Plateau and is drained by the Chi River.

Economic importance and

In 2011, the Gross Provincial Product of the province was 21.16 billion baht (about 520 million euros ). This corresponds to 34 181 baht per head (about 840 euros ), only about a fifth of the national average. This Yasothon is one of the poorest provinces in Thailand. In Thailand's socio -economic survey of 2002 Yasothon belonged with a poverty rate of over 30% of the poorest provinces in the country.

History

Yasothon was only on March 1, 1972, a separate province; before that it was part of the province of Ubon Ratchathani.

Culture and sights

Attractions

  • Wat Maha That - over 1000 years old Buddhist temple ( Wat ), the Chedi Phra That Yasothon (also Phra That Anon ) to contain a relic of Ananda ( the " favorite disciple" of the Buddha).
  • Phra That Kong Khao Noi - an old Chedi which houses a Buddha statue.
  • Archaeological site - a prehistoric excavation site, also in the village indeed Thong.

Local festivals

  • Soeng Bung Fai - The Rocket Festival takes place in mid-May, there is here a competition for the highest- fired missile. The festival can be traced back to animistic origins and to the rain god Phraya Thaen agree amicably.

Coat of arms and motto

The coat of arms of the province of Yasothon of two lions over the Chedi Phra A -non in the temple Wat Mahathat Yasothon. They point to the legend the city was founded, as at the time of choosing the right location, a lion appeared from the forest. Subsequently, the city of Ban Tha Singh, the Lion City, was called.

The local flower is the Tiger Lotus ( Nymphaea lotus ), the local tree is Anisoptera costata.

The province is divided into 9 districts ( Amphoe ). These districts are further subdivided into 78 subdistricts (tambon ) and 835 villages ( Muban ).

In the province there is a city ( เทศบาล เมือง - thesaban Mueang ): Yasothon ( เทศบาล เมือง ยโสธร ), and there are 8 small towns ( เทศบาล ตำบล - thesaban tambon).
