Žaškov

Žaškov (Hungarian Zsaskó ) is a municipality in the north - central Slovakia with 1633 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011), the kraj Okres in Dolny Kubin within the Žilinský situated, in the traditional landscape Orava.

Geography

The community is located at the southern end of the hill country between the mountains Orava Highlands Zemiansky diel ( 758 m nm) and Šíp ( 1170 m nm), the second you heard of the Great Fatra. The village occupies a valley along the creek Žaškovský creek to its confluence with the Orava one. The center is located at an altitude of 482 m nm and is 12 kilometers from Dolny Kubin away.

History

The town was founded in 1380 under German law Žilina and was then called Dewczdorf, 1382 Dewsdorff 1388 but already Zsaskow. The village belonged to the manor of Castle Orava and was managed by a Erbvogt. During the Kuruzenkriegs Žaškov suffered significant damage. 1715 were counted 570 inhabitants, in 1778 already 902 inhabitants, and finally in 1828, 242 houses with 1,738 inhabitants. Main sources of income were farming, building crafts, cloth making and rafting. During the first Czechoslovak Republic part also worked in the quarry in Párnica. The first school was mentioned in 1794, then 1861, when the school building opposite the Evangelical church stood. The current school building was opened in September 1970.

For a long time the village was only accessible via a ford by the Orava, before 1923 a wooden bridge was built, which was prone to flooding, however, and was eventually replaced in 1961 by a reinforced concrete bridge.

  • Roman Catholic church built in 1625 in Baroque style in the 18th century, the interior includes a plastic from the 16th century
  • Protestant tolerance church from the year 1792, with a 1890 -crafted neo-Romanesque design

Traffic

Žaškov can only be reached via a road 3rd order, with a connection to the road 1st order in 70 Párnica. The nearest railway station on the railway line Kraľovany - Sucha Hora is also located there.
