Room Forest is a village in the municipality of forest in Canton Bern, Switzerland. Until 31 December 2003 Room Forest was a separate municipality. It was until 1902 officially called Obermuhleren - room forest. The name is derived from the Old High German word zimbar and means ' timber '.
Geography
Room Forest lies on the length of a mountain, a hill near the city of Bern in the middle of the Bernese Mittelland. Zimmer Forest has partnered with the community to community forest Englisberg January 1, 2004.
On 31 December 2002, the community numbered 870 inhabitants. The coat of arms shows three green fir trees on green hill in front of three silver background.
History
Rooms forest was populated only at a late stage of the Germanic colonization of Switzerland. By Zimmerwaldists Manifesto in 1915 Zimmerwald found its way into the annals of world history. In September 1915 met in secret the leaders of the socialists from across Europe, including Trotsky and Lenin, the so-called Zimmerwaldists conference to split the international workers' movement in a democratic- social and a revolutionary communist wing. Initiator of the meeting was the editor of the Berner Tagwacht and later Bernese Councillor Robert Grimm.
