( 10001 ) Palermo is one of the main asteroid belt, the astronomer Lyudmila Ivanovna from the Russian Chernykh at the remote location of the Crimean Observatory ( IAU code 095) was discovered in Nautschnyj on 8 October 1969.

The asteroid was on 9 January 2001, named after Palermo, it is situated on the northern coast of Sicily, capital of the autonomous region of Sicily and the Province of Palermo.
