The epic Os Lusíadas ( The Lusiads ) by Luís de Camões appears for the first time. The work, which is dedicated to King Sebastian of Portugal, describes in verse (based on Homer's Odyssey ) the idealized history of Portugal from its beginnings to the time of Camões, especially the Portuguese discoveries and conquests in Asia. It is because of its quality, but also because of his great patriotism as the greatest testimony of Portuguese literature and makes Camões up today for the Portuguese national poet. The Lusiads are the inhabitants of Lusitania, the Roman name for Portugal, which is to go back to Lusus, a companion of Bacchus. The work consists of 10 songs, each of which contains a different number of verses. The 1,102 verses contain a total of 8,816 verses.

The frühneuhochdeutsche poet Johann species published in the publishing of his brother Bernhard Jobin in Strasbourg the works Eulenspiegel rhyme -looking, an adaptation of the Eulenspiegel theme in verse, Artliches praise of sounds, Aller practice grandmother and a preparation in the " Amadis ". In most of his works he uses the art of word play and Knittel verse.

George Brown 's 1572 work Civitates orbis view the cities terrarum out. The to 1618 six -volume work, probably stimulated by Sebastian Münster's Cosmographia, clearly inspired in size and layout to the 1570 published Theatrum orbis terrarum by Abraham Ortelius, sets completely new standards and acts as a role model and as a treasure trove of documents far more than one hundred years. The Cities are internally given on facing pages, while the respective historical and topographical descriptions are printed on the outer sides. Frans Hogenberg is essentially the creator of the panels of the first volume.
