160-Meter-Band

160 - meter band refers to the frequency range of 1.8 MHz to 2.0 MHz. It lies in the medium wave range. The name is derived from the wavelength of this frequency range.

Propagation conditions

After sunset ranges of several 1000 km are possible because the D layer of the ionosphere is completely gone and then a reflection takes place in the lower region of the F layer. Situated near the surface D layer attenuates the body waves in the day, resulting in lower ranges can be achieved.
