1928 German football championship

The twenty-first German football championship was finished very late. It was only on July 29, the new German soccer champion could be crowned. The reason was the participation of the national team at the Summer Olympics in Amsterdam in 1928. The final round of the German Cup could therefore only begin on July 8 with the second round.

New German champion of Hamburger SV, who thus could celebrate his second, for some already his third title. In contrast, the dominance of the Nuremberg Region / Fürth in German football seemed coming to an end. For the first time since 1913, no team from the region to qualify for the championship finals. Both the defending champion and record holder 1 FC Nuremberg and the two -time champions SpVgg Fürth were not there at the finals. The club had already failed in the Bavarian League, SpVgg in the so-called consolation round.

Therefore accepted with FC Wacker and FC Bayern Munich in Munich for the first time two teams in the Championships, and both even reached the semi-finals. The Bayern Munich already won their second South German championship and experienced in this period, the first phase of its impressive high club's history. They were in this season as a highly -traded championship favorite. The more depressing the issue was in the semifinals, as they went down against HSV with 2:8.

A changing of the guard, there was also the ATSB. With the title of Adler Pankow Berlin was not the first time in seven seasons the championship to Saxony. At Deutsche Turnerschaft the title went as the DFB in the North: The Harburg TB 1865 won for the first time the victory, but was lucky because in the quarterfinals of the DHBs had failed already on TV Fürth in 1860, but arrived at the green table still the semi-finals. The German youth force played in this year of no master.
