1933 Monaco Grand Prix

The Monaco Grand Prix was held at the 3.145 kilometers long Circuit de Monaco on April 3. It was the first running of the held in the Grand Prix season 1933 European Championship.

The race

During training, the German Alfa Romeo driver Rudolf Caracciola crashed hard. Only in July 1934, he was able to attend the race again.

In sunny, warm weather, the launching of Achille Varzi poles could take the lead. Tazio Nuvolari could closely follow and pass in the tenth round finally Varzi. This duel fought the two Italians over almost the entire distance from - until the last lap. Novolari drove in the lead in the tunnel, Varzi out first. With an engine failure Nuvolari had to watch as the blue Bugatti T51 Varzis drove away. To further save the second place Nuvolari jumped out of the car and pushed his Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza towards the harbor chicane down. Also one of the mechanics Nuvolaris, as well as some spectators ran onto the track and helped the Italians. In the meantime Baconin Borzacchini and René Dreyfus Nuvolari passed. For these unauthorized outside help ( own pushing no offense was at the time) Nuvolari was disqualified logical.

The engine of Nuvolaris teammates Borzacchini went up shortly after driving over the finish line.
