1960 DDR-Oberliga

The 1960 season was the twelfth edition of the DDR Oberliga. Champion for the second time the ASK Vorwärts Berlin. The season started on 19 March 1960 and ended on 27 November 1960.

Preseason

By Turbine Erfurt Erfurt descent of the district was not represented for the first time since the founding of the league in the upper house. Instead came the same three communities from the district hall.

Course of the season

The championship got to think like never before ( by nine points ) Vorwärts Berlin. A total of 23 match days forward was at the top and secured on 24 Matchday finally the championship. Last year's champion bismuth SC Karl- Marx-Stadt lay for a long time behind the team forward, but without seriously challenge this. After the early title win of the Berlin bismuth slipped from then on the fifth place. With Dynamo Berlin, the runner-up also came from the capital. The Dynamo players benefited from its strong second half, while they were still in danger of relegation after the first round.

The losers were Zeitz Chemical and progress Weissenfels that never should ascend to the Oberliga afterwards. Zeitz presented at least with Bernd Bauchspieß for the second time scorer. Bauchspieß became one of the most successful league striker later Chemie Leipzig. The best BSG Motor Zwickau closed from fourth place.

Fdgb Cup

The fdgb Cup 1960 was won by Motor Jena. Inferior in the final was the team of Empor Rostock, who had previously defeated the defending champion Dynamo Berlin and the later master Vorwärts Berlin.

International Competitions

For the DDR Teams UEFA club competitions were completed quickly. Vorwärts Berlin and Leipzig selection failed in Europe Cup Winners' Cup and Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in the first round. Bismuth Karl- Marx-Stadt, however, benefited in the first round of the European Champions' Cup against Glenavon FC believe that the British authorities of the GDR team exhibited no visas and Glenavon its home match not wanted on neutral court. So bismuth came without a fight in the first round where they were eliminated but ( again after three games ) against Rapid Vienna.
