First in the season 1966/67, the German Soccer Bundesliga, and thus German master of men was Eintracht Braunschweig.

Season overview

The team of Eintracht Braunschweig managed to stay in half of all games without conceding a goal and won the championship before the defending champion TSV 1860 Munich and last year's winner in the European Cup Winners' Cup Borussia Dortmund. It was also surprising fifth place for the 1st FC Kaiserslautern. The 1st FC Cologne, the first Bundesliga champion in 1964, and Werder Bremen, champion in 1965, disappointed and ended up only on the squares 7 and 16, the two newly promoted Fortuna Dusseldorf and Rot-Weiss Essen occupied the last two places, an increase from again.

Peculiarities of the season

From the Meidericher SV was name change MSV Duisburg.

The 11:0 Borussia Mönchengladbach against FC Schalke 04 was the first double-digit earnings in the Bundesliga.

The reigning champions 1860 Munich came in December 1966 to a player revolt that led to the dismissal of coach Max Merkel after a secret vote of the players who went out 16:1 against the coach. The trigger was the week-long, partially ehrabschneidenden blasphemous estates of Merkel about his team. As a result of the revolt Adalbert Wetzel resigned as football department head.

Rudolf Meier fountain was benched because of a fight a prison sentence of two weeks during the season.

Timo Konietzka was suspended for six months because he allegedly assaulted the referee during a game.

In the game of Borussia Dortmund and Schalke 04 in Red Earth Stadium on November 12, 1966 moved in the second half, suddenly dense fog with visibility less than 20 meters. The game was continued anyway and ended 6:2 for the BVB. The four goals in the second half were not seen for most viewers.
