Background
Except for the fact that Graham Hill was missing through injury and also John Miles again took over the Lotus 63, which had been previously piloted Mario Andretti in the race two weeks were the same teams and drivers as in the U.S. Grand Prix at before. Even the start numbers of the vehicles remained unchanged, which in those days was a rarity.
Training
In training, the two factory - Brabham put the standards, especially team founder Jack Brabham, the pole position with seven tenths of a second secured ahead of his team mate Jacky Ickx. The second row divided world champion Jackie Stewart with Denis Hulme before a pure Lotus series, consisting of Jo Siffert and Jochen Rindt.
Race
For the second time in a row failed the racing car of Bruce McLaren before the start, so that eventually went 16 cars in the race.
Stewart succeeded the best start that brought him the lead from Ickx and Brabham. Behind Hulme was able to overtake in the second round Rindt and so occupy the fourth place. Meanwhile Ickx increased pressure on leading Stewart. In round six he walked past while Hulme Brabham displaced from position three. The two leaders were overhauled in the following rounds of Hulme, so this was of round ten in at the top and this position defended to the finish. Stewart, meanwhile, fell behind Brabham back in fourth.
