The Faroe Islands Football Championship 1986 was held in the first Deild said first Faroese league and overall was the 44th season. It started on 26 April 1986 and ended on 14 September 1986.

Movers B36 Tórshavn returned after a year back in the top flight. Master was GÍ Gøta who could thus win the title for the second time. Defending B68 Toftir landed on the third place. Had to dismount the other hand, B36 Tórshavn after a year of excellence.

In comparison to the previous season, the strike rate improved to 3.39 per game, which meant the highest average since 1979. The highest achieved victory on Matchday eighth GÍ Gøta in the away game against B68 Toftir as well as on Matchday eleventh HB Tórshavn in the away game against LIF Leirvík each 6-0. The highest-scoring game there was on 13 Matchday between B36 Tórshavn and TB Tvøroyri, which ended 7:2.

In the first Deild each team to 14 games played two games against each other. The point- best team in the season-ending stable as champions this league, the last team got down to the 2nd Deild.

Course of the season

Cup decision

B68 Toftir caught with three wins from their first three games, the best start, but lost 0-3 on Matchday in away game against immediate rivals KÍ Klaksvík beaten that passed on points. With two defeats on the sixth and seventh match B68 was able to maintain the top position again. On the eighth Gameday the top game came against the tied runners-up GÍ Gøta, which was lost at home with 0:6. Except for the final day GÍ was then undefeated and were no longer on the standings. The decision for the championship fell in the penultimate round, when GÍ only lacked a point, which was reached by a 1-1 draw with LIF Leirvík.

Relegation battle

With two exceptions, promoted B36 Tórshavn occupied throughout the last place. On the second day this could be left for a short time with a 1-1 at home to GÍ Gøta, the first victory was not until on matchday six with a 3-1 home win against LIF Leirvík, which for their part in the first leg on the opening day 3-0 could decide and thus were the first leaders, but then gradually slid down in the table. On 13 Round B36 could LIF on points to catch up with a 7-2 home win against TB Tvøroyri while LIF 1:1 played in the away game against GÍ Gøta. On the final day lif Leirvík came to a 2-2 at home against B68 Toftir. Due to the 1:4 away defeat of B36 Tórshavn in the city derby against HB Tórshavn B36 of the descent was thus sealed.
