1995–96 French Rugby Union Championship

The 1995/96 season was the 97th staging of the French rugby union championship. It included 20 teams in the top league ( of today's top 14).

The championship was divided into three phases. It began with the qualifying round, in which ten teams played in two groups against each other. The four top finishers in both groups moved directly into the knockout round, while the teams played in the squares 5-8 in a Barrage with the best teams in the second division to the eligibility to play in the knockout round. The two last placed both groups increased; this concerned Aviron Bayonnais, the Racing Club de France, the FCS Rumilly and Montpellier RC.

The home game right of K. -o- round, even at the 16 teams were involved, resulted from the better placement in the qualifying round. In the second round followed by the quarter-and semi-final. The two semi-final winners meet in the final on each other, which was held in Paris on 1 June 1996 at the Parc des Princes, and played for the Bouclier de Brennus. Here, Stade Toulousain won against the CA Brive and won for the 13th time the championship.
