2011 African Cross Country Championships

The first Cross Country Africa Championships were held on March 6, 2011 at the Western Province Cricket Club in Cape Town. The event was the Confédération Africaine d' Athlétisme. A precursor event took place in Nairobi once in 1985.

A total of four races took place at the event, one each for men and women and junior men and junior women ( age group U20). The distances were 12 km for men, 8 km for women and juniors and 6 km for the juniors. All medals were won by Kenyan athletes. In the two junior races Kenyans occupied even the first six places. Here, the Kenyan athletics federation had sent his supposedly strongest athletes instead of two weeks later held World Cross Country Championships in Punta Umbria. The highly -ranked Ethiopian team missed the competition because required entry visas could not be issued in time. A total of 128 athletes competed from 17 countries.
