2012 African Women's Championship

The African Cup of Nations Women's 2012 (English: African Women Championship, French: Championnat d' Afrique de football féminin ) was the tenth playout of the African Continental Championships in women's football and was held from 28 October to 11 November for the second time 2008 in Equatorial Guinea. Venues were the capital Malabo and Bata as four years ago. Since the first two championships were held without finals, the CAF is one of this tournament as its eighth edition.

Hosts Equatorial Guinea used for the second time after 2008 his home advantage and Africa champion in women's football. Scorer was also the second time after 2008 Genoveva Añonma from titleholders Equatorial Guinea with 6 goals.

Qualification

Qualified teams:

Equatorial Guinea ( host ), DR Congo, Ethiopia, South Africa, Ivory Coast, Nigeria ( Titelverteiduger ), Senegal, Cameroon

The teams of Ivory Coast and Senegal were able to qualify for the first time. Since Ghana missed the finals, Nigeria was now the only team that participated in all previous finals.

Mode

The eight teams were divided into two groups of four teams each. Within the groups, each team plays once against each other.

In case of equality of several teams in the group matches to decide the results of the matches about the placement. In this case, only the summed points, then goal difference and then the number of goals scored be compared. This results in no placement, the goal difference and the number of goals scored be used in all group matches. If it there is still no decision have fallen decides fair play conduct of the teams. The group winners and runners reach the semifinals and play there in the knockout system "crosswise" against each other. The semi-final winners reach the final, the losers play for third place. From the semi-finals following a draw state an extension from the two by fifteen minutes and then if still no winner is a penalty shootout.
