2012 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup

The U-17 World Cup Women's 2012 (official 2012 FIFA U -17 Women's World Cup) was the third playout of this competition for soccer players under 17 years old (as of 1 January 1995) and took place from September 22 to 13 October 2012 in Azerbaijan instead. The tournament was presented at the meeting of the FIFA Executive Committee on 19 March 2010 in Azerbaijan, which was the first time host a FIFA tournament. On 16 teams participated in this tournament, the group and then in the knockout system initially competed in four against each other. Defending champion was the team from South Korea, who could not qualify. World Champions were Frenchwomen.

Venues

The World Cup matches took place in two cities. Five stages were located in Baku and one in Lənkəran. The three smaller arenas in Baku, however, are only equipped with artificial turf.

Qualification

The qualifiers in Asia has been played at the U-16 Asia Cup in Nanjing ( China) from 3 to 13 November 2011. Tournament winner or their group was Japan. The second and third World Cup starting place secured North Korea, which had won the first World Cup and China, which participated for the first time.

Two places in the UEFA awarded at the U- 17 European Women in June 2012 in Nyon, Switzerland. Could Qualify European champions Germany and France. Third place was awarded Azerbaijan, which qualified automatically as hosts.

As a qualifying tournament for the CONCACAF CONCACAF served U -17 Championship, which was held from 2 to 12 May 2012 in Guatemala City ( Guatemala) in a final tournament with eight teams. As finalists Canada and the United States qualified. The third participant was determined in the match for third place between Mexico and Panama, which Mexico won 6-0.

The South American participants were determined at the U-17 South American Championship soccer of women in Bolivia from 9 to 25 March. Qualified to Brazil, Colombia and Uruguay had that participated for the first time at a U17 Women's World Cup.

The three representatives from Africa were determined in January and March 2012. As the first African team to Ghana to qualify in two playoff duels against South Africa. After two playoff wins against Zambia was also qualified Nigeria. The third World Cup starting place Gambia secured in two games against Tunisia. For Gambia, it was the first participation in a major international women's tournament.

The representative from Ozeanie was determined at the OFC U- 17 Women's Championship, which was held in New Zealand from 9th to 13th April 2012. New Zealand has secured three significant victories participation.

Trivia

  • With 30,250 spectators was set a new attendance record at the opening match between Azerbaijan and Colombia and the previously conducted in a doubleheader game against Nigeria Canada.
  • In the game against Gambia North Korea the North Koreans first raised on the 11-0 record for the U-17 World Cup games, which the German team had erected on 8 September 2010 at the 10:1 against South Africa, and stopped the record, the the German team had set up on 10 September 2007 in the match against Argentina at the world Cup women's 2007 Women's World Cup games. On September 25, Nigeria made both records in 11:0 against Azerbaijan.
  • Chinwendu Ihezuo (Nigeria ) is the first player who get five goals in a U -17 World Cup game. They surpassed the previous record of four goals, set up by Kyra Malinowski ( Germany ) and Yeo Minji (South Korea) at the 2010 World Cup.
  • Sainey Sissohore (Gambia ) was the youngest player in the tournament's history in the game against North Korea with 13 years and 267 days. Since they also at the game against France scored the second goal for Gambia, it is also the youngest scorer in the tournament's history.
  • Gabriela Gonzalez (Uruguay ) is the first goalkeeper in the tournament's history to be awarded a red card.
